COPH hosts statewide convenings to advance children’s health coverage in Florida
Florida Covering Kids and Families leads two statewide efforts: the Covering Florida Navigator Program and Connecting Kids to Coverage. Together, these programs collaborate with state agencies and community stakeholders to provide outreach, education and enrollment assistance for the Federally Facilitated Marketplace, Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

Launching this fall, the Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing will supply a pipeline of èßäÊÓÆµapps ready to specialize in critical areas throughout Tampa Bay and beyond. In the USF College of Public Health, AI-powered drones are tracking mosquitoes carrying deadly diseases in real time.

Directly out of undergrad, Sara Wolicki worked as an accountant at a Vermont ski resort. She loved working with numbers and enjoyed the time with her coworkers, but something was missing. Wolicki found that missing piece in the field of public health - epidemiology and evaluation specifically - and never turned back. She received a Master of Public Health from the èßäÊÓÆµapp in 2015, fully transitioning from the business world to a STEM field.

COPH Bulls beyond borders
For Trenyce Pierre, Cierra Greenfield and Shenica Jerome—three USF èßäÊÓÆµapps in the College of Public Health (COPH)—a one-week study abroad trip to Quebec, Canada became a defining moment in their academic journeys. It was an immersive experience that expanded their global perspectives and deepened their public health understanding in ways that textbooks simply couldn’t. The three were among a group of èßäÊÓÆµapps who participated, making the opportunity all the more meaningful.

From her roots on a Florida farm to the front lines of global disease elimination at USF’s College of Public Health, Dr. Kristi Miley has carved a path in public health. With three USF degrees — a PhD in global communicable diseases, an MSPH in global communicable diseases and a BS in biomedical sciences— Miley has transformed her lifelong connection to animals and the natural world into a career devoted to infectious disease research, medical entomology and public health education.
